Empty Bottles began in 2014 as a guitar duo playing acoustic covers at an open mic at Roanoke’s Fork in the Market. In the first few years since its inception, open mic host and piano wizard, Ben Hite, recognized some real chemistry with guitarist Joey Dennis and quickly jumped in, offering up rich, soulful vocals, and a chameleonic approach to keys. It was not long before a rhythm section came together featuring chief groove maker, Steele Whisnant on bass.
In 2017, Hite’s cousin and Richmond native, Matt Faszewski was added to the roster, blending sax lines in as well as taking on many vocal parts, and in 2020 Chad Hester took over the percussive torch, adding yet another layer of harmony to the band’s dynamic vocals.
The 5 piece has settled into the role of the Valley’s premier Yacht Rock cover band. This sultry and soulful group will put the wind back in anyone’s sails with grooves from legends such as Kenny Loggins, Hall and Oates, and the Doobie Brothers. So grab yourself a dance parter and get ready to set sail on this smooth voyage.
