With Paul Bell and Johnny\nCastle in the band for nearly a decade\, and founding father Mark Wenner the remaining original\,\nthis team outshines all previous incarnations. \nThe Nighthawks was an idea in Mark Wenner’s brain long before he was able to implement it. The\nmusical product of pre-1958 radio in Washington\, D.C.\, he did not know there were rules against\nmixing blues\, R&B\, honky-tonk country\, doo-wop\, gospel and rockabilly into one delicious stew. \nIn 1972\, Mark\, then 23\, returned to his hometown after a New York City band apprenticeship eager to\nstart a real\, work-every-night band based on American roots music. He found a receptive local scene.\nWashington has long been a musical melting-pot of the kind that made Memphis the source point for\nthe evolution of American music in the second half of the 20th century. It just never had a Stax or\nSun record label to tell the world. As the city exploded with an influx of people from all the\nsurrounding states during the Great Depression and World War II\, Washington became a hotbed of\nmusical cross-fertilization. When Bill Haley first brought his wacky Pennsylvania mix of hillbilly music\nand rhythm and blues to D.C. in 1952\, people got it. Although she was born in Canada\, and grew up in East Tennessee\, her Argentine parents instilled in her a love of Latin American music from an early age. All through her childhood\, there was a mix of everything from Argentine folklore to The Beatles to Manhattan Transfer playing in the house at all times. With all the music flowing around her\, it was nearly impossible for her not to want to become a professional musician\, and she began working towards that by performing wherever she could during high school\, singing everything from choral music to jazz standards. \nIn 2015\, Florencia graduated from Queens University of Charlotte with a degree in Music Therapy. Florencia was thrilled to be able to combine her passion for music and her desire to make a difference in the world with this profession. Still\, she never lost her love of composing and performing. \nAs a nomad at heart\, Florencia has had the opportunity to travel and perform in various cities and countries such as San Francisco\, Charlotte\, Hungary\, Kenya\, Argentina and Ecuador\, where she recorded and released her first EP. She now lives in Johnson City\, TN and will be performing throughout the Southeast this summer. DESCRIPTION:$5 Cover ~ Hailing from deep in the Big Lick hills of Southwestern Virginia\, GOTE hits the scene with guitar driven psychedelic blues reminiscent of days gone by with the jam sensibilities that will resonate with most music lovers. Since 2015 GOTE have been writing and producing phenomenal originals with textured tones and harmonically rich melodies. While a GOTE show is comprised of primarily original material\, there is a seasoning of their influences in covers. John Prine\, Allman Brothers\, Tom Waits\, Bob Dylan\, and Grateful Dead are just a few examples of where the inspiration has flowed through. \nIn the early months of 2019\, GOTE entered the recording studio and now have a four song EP called\, “Key to the Highway”. The EP consists of four original songs from Foster and John. Arranged by the ensemble\, these tunes represent the diverse influences and musical soundscapes that have shaped GOTE’s sound. \nThis finely calibrated group of seasoned musicians consists of Matt Leonard on drums holding down a deep pocket supported by Jay Gladden laying down the groove on bass. Foster Burton brings his sweet guitar hooks and sung story lines to the mix\, as John McBroom delivers with his dynamic energy and style on lead guitar. GOTE brings excitement to the stage through their music.
